Dr. Alderman received her doctorate in Psychology
from PACE University. She is a licensed clinical
psychologist and a certified school psychologist.
She works in the New York City School system as a
school psychologist and has a private practice in
Mineola, New York. Prior to working as a school
psychologist, Dr. Alderman was the coordinator of
Inpatient Psychiatry at Brookdale Hospital Medical
Center. Her focus has been in advocating for
children and adolescents with learning disabilities.
In 1998, Dr. Alderman was interviewed twice by Donna
Hanover on the “Good Day New York” television show.
For two years she wrote a weekly column on various
mental health topics, for the Spring Creek Sun.
Additionally, she has published articles in: The
Nassau County Psychologist, Omega Journal of Death
and Dying, and Reach Out. In 1996, her research on
The Psychological Effects of Miscarriages on Women
and their Families, was presented at the 104th
Annual Convention of the American Psychological
Association in Toronto, Canada. Dr. Alderman was
voted Best Psycho-therapist by the readers of the
Long Island Press for 2007, 2008, 2009, and was
nominated again for 2010.
Dr. Alderman became involved with advocating for her
son who has auditory processing disorder when he was
young and continued to advocate for him through his
school years. Recently, Dr. Alderman has co-authored
a book titled “Don’t You Get It? Living With
Auditory Learning Disabilities.” The book describes
what an auditory processing disorder is, as well as
how to help advocate for children who suffer from
it. Additionally, the book describes first hand
accounts of people who live with the disorder and
how it has affected their lives.
