Suzanne Litrel is an award-winning World History
and Economics teacher on Long Island, New York. She
grew up overseas in Rome, Singapore and Sao Paulo,
Brazil. Upon graduating from the University of
Michigan in 1988, she moved to Taipei, where she
studied Mandarin Chinese and taught English as a
second language. The next year, she traveled through
Mainland China. She left Beijing via the
Trans-Siberian train to Moscow at the end of May,
crossing into Western Europe just before the fall
of the Berlin Wall. In the classroom, and through
her writing, Suzanne
seeks to share a deep appreciation for global
cultures and traditions.
After six years in the business world, Suzanne shifted career course and became a secondary school social studies teacher at Bay Shore High School. She has taught Economics, Global History, Criminal Justice, International Relations and Advanced Placement World History. She has brought the Model United Nations program to Bay Shore, and with co-advisor Heather Thompson, the team has won many awards at the national level. Suzanne Litrel has presented on creative ways to teach World History and Economics numerous times at the regional and state level. She also scores Advanced Placement World History exams for the College Board each June.
Ms. Litrel lives on Long Island with her very patient husband and two amazing children, ages 14 and 8. The family has recently been expanded with the adoption of a dog, two-year-old Daisy. Suzanne has been an avid runner for over twenty-five years.
