LIAG Literary Award Writing Contest
2013 Results

In 2013, two Long Island high schools were chosen and high school seniors were asked to enter the 500-700 word contest with the writing theme, What Long Island personality, past or present, living or deceased, has most affected your life and your life's mission?

The 2013 winners, selected by a judging panel of authors among the Long Island Authors Group, were from two high schools in the Bellmore-Merrick School District.

Four students received Honorable Mention while First Place went to senior Sarah Steil, from Sanford H. Calhoun High School for her moving essay about her grandfather and Second Place was awarded to senior Stephanie Vogel from John F. Kennedy High School.

Dorothy McPartland, the LIAG President in 2013 describes the Literary Award contest as remarkable, "We are proud to encourage the next generation of Long Island writers." Kim Serpe, English District Chair at Calhoun HS, expressed her gratitude for the award, which recognizes the efforts of high school students to achieve high standards in their writing.
