LIAG Literary Award Writing Contest
2014 Results

The winners of the 2014 Literary Award Contest were; First Place, Dan Gottlieb, Bethpage High School, and Rachel Kessler of Sanford H. Calhoun High School in second place. The students were honored at the June 4th 'First Wednesday' meeting where they read their moving, inspirational essays. The LIAG presented the winners with a check for their scholarship awards. Dan received a $500 award and Rachel received a $250 award.

In addition to these students, six others received "Honorable Mention" certificates: Christopher Johnsen and Erum Ahmed from Calhoun H.S.; and Samantha Skopas, Michael Kappel, Sana Fujimura, and Michael O'Brien, from Bethpage H.S.

Speaking of the 2014 Literary Award Contest, President Emeritus Dorothy McPartland said, "This year's high school seniors wrote winning essays that struck a chord with everyone who read them. They shared personal stories about responsibility, perseverance, and optimism in the face of life's challenges."

"Dan Gottlieb, first prize winner, reminded us to 'get lost on the road of life' in his thought-provoking essay on philosophy," said McPartland. "The Long Island Authors Group was proud to support these dynamic seniors in our 2014 Literary Award contest."
